Today's Character Building Lesson: Meekness: The Fruit of the Spirit

Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,  meekness, self-control: against such there is no law.

We are doing a unit study on the Fruit of the Spirit. Today's lesson was about meekness and self-control. These two fruit go hand in hand. What we were shown today through Adonai, is how to walk through this everyday life in meekness and self-control.
How do you deal with situations? How do you respond to the discomforts of and trials in life?

As a follower of Messiah, we are to use His examples in dealing with everyday life; the ups and downs, the disappointments, trials and tribulations of life. The Scriptures say, "the just shall live by faith". It is that surety in knowing G-d is Faithful and True and that He is in control of everything; totally everything, that keeps us going.

As a believer in Y'shua, we now have Ruach Ha Kodesh, (the Holy Spirit), Who gives us gifts and fruit for our daily lives. Today, we are talking about the Fruit of the Spirit.

When we think of fruit, we usally think of sweet fruit that is pleasant to taste. Let's recap the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control:

Now, let's look at the fruit, or works of the flesh. These apparently are opposite of the Fruit of the Spirit and present false pleasure, and in the end, only bring destruction to fruition.

Gal 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of G-d.

Rememeber, that man is a soul made up of three-parts; spirit, mind and body. G-d is the Father of our spirits, not our flesh.

Jhn 4:24 G-d [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

Gen 6:3 And YHVH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Fruit takes time to grow. First, seeds must be planted, then watered, then cultivated and the sower must patiently continue to do these things as he waits for the fruit to grow. So it is with the Fruit of the Spirit.

How do you cultivate the Fruit of the Spririt? G-d's Word is the seed. You must read it, meditate on it, hide it in your heart, and rely on it during sticky situations. You must use it continuously in your daily life.
You must walk in the Spirit of G-d in order to cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit; not in the flesh.

I told my children today that in order to walk in the Spirit and cultivate His Fruit into your life, there's a very important factor they must consider. G-d is the Invisible Almighty Creator of all things. He is real, but unseen. If you are not aware of His Presence and do not have the faith to believe that He exists, then how can you walk in His Spirit and cultivate His Fruit into your life? The answer is, you can't.

Phillipians 4:19 I can do all things through Messiah as He strengthens me.

Too many of us have been in Church most of our lives and have never developed a personal relationship with G-d. Most of us have no idea that G-d really hears us when we pray, watches over us and is Ever Present in our lives. Many of us are wrapped up in the highs of praising and worshipping, but we don't make personal time to pray or sit at the feet of Y'shua. Many of us are too busy in the things of the world and not the things of the Spirit.

Some things we can do:
  • Get to know G-d by reading the Word
  • Spend time alone with G-d in prayer
  • Keep a journal of your prayers and anticipate G-d answering them. (Remember that G-d will always answer prayer. You have to be looking for the answer. He answers prayer according to His perfect will, not ours. So when you pray, believe that you receive what you ask for according to G-d's Will. G-d will either say yes, no, or wait. Keep a journal of answered prayer. This will help you know G-d better and know that He is real in your life.
  • Since we are talking about the Spirit of G-d and the Fruit of the Spirit, get to know the Holy Spirit. He is the One Who leads you to Y'shua, the Son; Who leads you to YHVH, the Father.
